Music To You brings professional music instruction to the comfort of your home in Santa Cruz. We offer in-person lessons, as well as online lessons via Skype for guitar, bass, piano, drums, vocals, and recording/production. Our instructors are carefully selected, ensuring they have a deep appreciation and understanding of music theory, style, and technique. Our goal is to connect with each student to make lessons fun, effective, and rewarding. We believe every student is unique, and therefore, we do not have a blanket curriculum. Instead, we offer customized, progressive lesson plans based on the student's goals and interests. By providing students with S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-Based) practice techniques, we can ensure constant progress, without spinning your wheels. Our teaching philosophy is simple. Cultivate passion. Having taught music for over 15 years, I've learned that the best way to cultivate passion is to find the little spark that is unique to each student. It could be as simple as a song they like, or just a familiar melody. For many students, the moment they are able to play something they recognize music stops being hard work and becomes truly enjoyable. This process quickly enhances the ability to play by ear, giving the student the power to make musical discoveries on their own, which accelerates their progress and enjoyment. Another key to making music engaging, fulfilling and fun is through collaborative teaching. While the teacher directs the lesson, the lesson plan is a direct result of our exploration of the musical style that the student is most interested in. We want each student to have the experience of an open two-way conversation and be an active participant in charting the course of their musical journey. Throughout our lessons, we provide music fundamentals, emphasize proper technique, and supply suggested listening. By exploring music the student will also gain and enhance other important life skills such as; patience, goal setting, time management, good communication, and confidence. - Colin Gailey Founder/Head Instructor
